That's quite a lot of devices ... mind you it also includes Tablets, mobile phones, smartphone, laptops, as well as desktops. So yeah ... it does add up.
"Microsoft won't say exactly how many windows 8 machines are being used. Not too long ago Microsoft was bragging that it had sold 100 million licenses for Windows 8. While the software giant was happy to say how many licenses that have sold, it's not offering any details on exactly how many of those licenses have been activated and how many copies of Windows 8 are in use. This is a question analytics firm Moor Insights & Strategy recently tackled.

Analyst Patrick Moorhead stated, "The challenge is figuring out what that [100m licenses sold] actually means. It doesn't mean that there are that many devices out the door." According to the analytics firm, copies of Windows 8 sold to OEMs make up the bulk of the 100 million licenses sold. However, the 100 million mark excludes copies of Windows 8 sold to the enterprises as part of the volume licensing agreement. Moorhead estimates that only 59 million Windows 8 devices are actually in use. That means that a little less than half of all of those 100 million licenses sold that Microsoft likes to brag about our sitting in a warehouse somewhere unused."

Got a motor bike? ... Take all your action scenes using the motorcycle on-board camcorder Mio MiVue M300.
"Mitac International has launched Mio MiVue M300, an own-brand on-board motorcycle camcorder capable of recording at 1080p, 120-degree wide angle and 5-megapixel for the Taiwan market at a recommended retail price of NT$7,990 (US$270).

While there have been motorcycle camcorder models launched by white-box vendors in the Taiwan market at NT$2,000-5,000, Mitac is the first brand vendor to launch such devices, the company indicated. Mitac has reached a Taiwan market share of nearly 20% for on-board camcorders and hopes to garner a market share of 30-40% for the motorcycle segment, the company said."

Could this be the new standard for "bundling" or zipping files ... well, for BitTorrent users it's perfect I guess.
The developers of the BitTorrent file-sharing protocol have unveiled what they describe as a new "multimedia format" called a Bundle. The file groups together a range of content, some of which can only be accessed once the user enters a key.
It is designed to help artists sell or otherwise distribute material to fans in addition to the initial music file or film clip downloaded. One analyst said it represented BitTorrent's effort to reinvent itself.

The San Francisco company's peer-to-peer data transfer technology has been blamed for helping online piracy to flourish, thanks to its use by several copyright-infringing media sites.
However, Mark Mulligan, editor of the Music Industry Blog, said Bundle was a "strong step" towards the company repositioning itself as a genuine partner to owners of content."

Windows 8.1 - Codename Windows Blue. Will it offer some kind of redemption?
"Although developer builds of Windows 8.1 have been floating around for some time, the first "official" consumer test release is set for June
Hot on the heels of Microsoft's announcement that it has sold 100 million Windows 8 licenses comes news that "Windows Blue", AKA Windows 8.1, will be available to test in June.

A public preview of Windows 8.1 will be made available for consumers to try out during Microsoft's BUILD conference, which will take place from June 26 to June 28. Windows 8.1 is expected to bring back some semblance of the iconic "Start" button and will make an effort to ensure that customer feedback doesn't go unanswered. "We are being very real about what needs to change and changing it as thoughtfully and quickly as we can," said Windows Chief Julie Larson-Green."

We're not even half-way through 2013 and some people are already looking forward to 2014!
"The video game maker Electronic Arts (EA) has reported lower profits, as weakness in packaged games sales dented profits. For the three months to the end of March, net income fell 19% to $323m (£208m), from the same period a year ago.
EA said customers had held back buying until the latest consoles from Sony and Microsoft are released later this year. But the company expects higher revenues in its next financial year of $4bn.

Like the rest of the games industry, EA is struggling as more players switch to casual games on mobile devices such as Angry Birds.
It has also been a turbulent time internally for Electronic Arts recently. John Riccitiello, who had been chief executive since 2007, resigned his position in March after the latest in a series of profit warnings."

Just like Microsoft's Office which you can subscrible online to use, Adobe has now just done the same.
"Adobe is introducing a subscription model for many of its most popular programs, including Photoshop and Dreamweaver. Up to now, customers had perpetual access by paying a single fee for Adobe's Creative Suite.

From next month, continuing access to the programs, either individually or as a whole, will demand a monthly fee. Standalone versions will still be available but will not be upgraded. The change was announced at Adobe's annual Max conference, at which it details the latest updates to its products."

Google will always find its way into almost any device ... including Apple's iPad (iOS devices), talk about sleeping with the devil.
"The Google Now service is being extended to Apple's iPhones and iPads. Until now the product - which suggests "answers before you ask" - had been limited to devices running Google's own Android operating system.

Unlike the original version, Google Now only works within the firm's Search app on Apple's iOS platform - potentially limiting its appeal. One analyst suggested the launch indicated that the firm's priority was securing the widest audience possible.
"Google is going to put its technologies onto other platforms whenever it can draw people into its services," said Brain Blau, consumer technology research director at the consultants Gartner. "
