While you wish you had the best media payer, you are still confused as to which one you should buy. The Zune VS the iPod is what you are battling your thoughts for. While you know that Apple has a full tug of war going on with Microsoft, Samsung, HTC and Google, it is not going to sit back and wait while the other competitors take over its position in the market for gadgets and their accessories like the iPod cases etc.

 

 

The Zune is however, the second media player in the market with touch technology, rechargeable media playing facility and removable memory storage. You can sue the SD card slot in Zune just as you use it in the smartphones.

 

Comparison

When the iPod came out in the market, there was no concept of the smart media players. That is how its market has evolved and people now buy iPods if they have to listen to songs and stuff.  Both the devices are compared as follows so you can see which one will suit you best.

 

  1. The Zune is a hair thicker in its width than the iPod.
  2. The price of Zune is 219$ for the 16GB version, and 289$ for the 32GB version. The iPod is for 199$ for the 8GB, 299$ for the 32GB and 399 for the 64GB.
  3. Zune is available in 5 different colors and the iPod touch is only available in its one typical blackish silver color.
  4. The dimensions of the Zune are 4 X 2.7 X 0.35 while the iPod has the dimensions of 4.3 X 2.4 X 0.33.
  5. The weight of the Zune is around 2.6 ounces, but that of the iPod is 4.05 ounces.
  6. The CPU system for the Zune is Nvidia Tegra, while the iPod has the CPU of Samsung ARM.
  7. The screen size of Zune is 3.3 inches, with an OLED technology for the screen. The iPod on the other hand is 3.5” with an LCD.
  8. The screen resolution for Zune is 480 X 272 p, while that for the iPod is 480 X 320.
  9. The video output for the Zune is 720p with an optional dock. For the iPod we have the video output as 480p and 576p with an optional cable.
  10. There is no GPS and no Camera in the devices.
  11. The Wi-Fi strength in both the devices is 802.11 b/g.
  12. If you wish to have subscription over channels for music, you can do it with Zune, but for the iPod, the rhapsody only provides subscriptions, not Apple.
  13. You can easily purchase movies and rent out videos with your accounts on Live and Apple respectively for Zune and iPod.
  14. The audio formats supported by Zune are Windows media, WMA Lossless, AAC, and MP3. With an iPod the formats supported are AAC including FairPlay unlike in the Zune, MP3, Apple Lossless, and Wav.
  15. The video formats supported are WMV, H.264, and MPEG4 for Zune. With iPod, you can run videos in formats as described above except WMV.
