How to stay safe from Firesheep Print E-mail
Posted by Tammy Wilson
Thursday, 02 May 2013 18:20

If you are an Internet cafe surfer you should know you are facing a great risk, in the form of an easy-to-use but very effective data sniffing tool: Firesheep. This Firefox plugin can grant anyone from the same network access to your password-protected session with any site, like Facebook, Twitter or even your email provider. This can be very dangerous taking into consideration the amount of information we now keep online: pictures, documents, emails and even financial information can fall into the wrong hands if you don`t learn how to protect yourself in these situations.

Even amateur hacker can use Firesheep to hijack your session. With a simple double click they can get access to your personal information, emails and more. The plugin works by reading the unencrypted cookies that these sites use to authenticate your session, and then uses them to impersonate you. A simple, yet effective approach, this style of hacking is referred to as "side-jacking" and can be very dangerous unless you take the appropriate measures.

Posted by Holly

Apple have always been a company to keep everyone in as much suspense as possible, it’s all part of their plan to keep us fascinated with them. It’s Apple’s tremendous effort in marketing and branding that has made their products so successful, and so fans hang on every rumour and debate every tiny hint from the company about new products. But even giant companies are susceptible to leaks, and when we discovered these pictures which are allegedly of the new budget iPhone, you can only imagine how excited we were.

We can’t say for sure whether this is the real deal, but we certainly have good reason to believe it is. This picture doesn’t show the new iPhone itself, rather the rear shell of it, but that can give away a lot of hints about what the actual phone will look like.

Backing up and archiving data Print E-mail
Posted by Kira Hanson
Thursday, 28 February 2013 11:13

There is a big difference between backing up data and archiving data, and both are very important. Anyone, and really that is most of us, who has failed to maintain proper data backups, either has been, or almost certainly will be, stung by a hardware or even software failure that leaves them feeling somewhat bereft when their precious data either disappears or becomes inaccessible.

Once the initial panic subsides a little (and just about everyone who finds themselves in this situation does panic), the realisation and then the reluctant acceptance dawn that a huge amount of work will need to be done and a large amount of money spent in order to get back to where we once were. It is like locking yourself out of your house; many of us manage to do it once, though very few people do it twice; just ask any locksmith.
