Introduction

While many have seen the bang for the buck performance that Sandy Bridge offers there are still some people out there who have been longing for the Hex core processors, full 16x pcie ports and quadfire/4-way-SLI.Gigabyte is there to offer up a few boards for those who want to jump on the fastest Intel platform available.

Gigabyte is one of the top motherboard and video card manufacturers in the world, they were the first motherboard manufacturer to start using copper layers that weigh in at two ounces per square foot (double that of normal boards, as well as being among the first to switch to using only solid capacitors for the power circuitry on their mother boards and video cards, leading to better performance and a longer lifespan.

Gigabyte's "about us" page goes into greater detail:

GIGABYTE was founded in 1986 in a small lab by four young engineers passionate to make their mark on the industry. GIGABYTE remains dedicated to the core belief of improving the lives of our users by manufacturing products that are high-performing, reliable and of excellent quality. Here are some of GIGABYTE’s innovation highlights:

The Gigabyte X79-UD3 uses the great Intel X79 (Patsburg) chipset offering a couple of items over the already performance oriented P67 and Z68 chipsets. Those features such as Quad-Channel Memory, Hex core processors and Quad SLI/Crossfire really aim toward those who want bleeding edge performance. Cool.

This board will be put through its paces with a brand spanking new Intel 3930K processor. I did not have the opportunity to own a hex-core processor with the previous generation processors so needless to say I am very excited to see what this platform can really do.
