Introduction In the past year or so, many manufacturers have enjoyed an increase in the sales for their Netbook products, all thanks to Intel's ATOM processor. For a lot of consumers, a portable Windows 7 based Netbook is ideal for simple web surfing, checking emails, watching movies and occasional word processing. However, with most Netbooks featuring only 1Gb of ram, productivity may suffer if you want to run anything intensive such as photo editing software. That's not to say that the ATOM processor isn't capable, it's the lack of ram that's the killer. So what's the solution. Well, one of the solution is to upgrade the ram from 1Gb to 2Gb. With double the amount of ram ... your Netbook should be able to run most applications, albeit a little slower than your desktop. Last month, we reviewed the Crucial PC2-5300 2Gb SODIMM, which proved to be an essential upgrade for any Netbook due to its compatibilty and price. We demonstrated how a simple memory upgrade from 1Gb to 2Gb, can increase the overall performance of the Netbook. What's more, with 2Gb of ram installed, we were able to run a lot more applications in the background (taskbar) and thus increase your overall productivity.
In this review, we'll be taking a look at the Adata Supreme DDR2-800 2Gb SODIMM. It's rated at PC2-6400 and should be compatible for both Netbooks and Notebooks alike. We'll be installing this memory module into our Fujitsu MH-330 Netbook and see how it performs. For those who are not too familiar with Adata, here's a little blurb taken from their website.
After seeing what a 2Gb memory upgrade can do to a Netbook, I would recommend ALL Netbook users to upgrade their memory. It's fairly cheap and affordable to upgrade right now ... so there's no excuse. The overall user experience is a lot smoother and more enjoyable. No more annoying lags or looking at that stupid hour-glass (Windows 7 circle) while waiting for applications to close/open.
I'm expecting these memory modules to perform just as good as the Crucial PC2-5300 2Gb SODIMM, if not better. More importantly, we'll see how Photoshop and a lot of other applications run under Windows 7 Starter. Let's not waste any more time and check out the specifications in our next page ...
