Introduction

Blizzard's World of Warcraft (WoW for short) is one of the biggest selling games of all time. Launched on November 2004, it's now estimated that there are over 12 million players worldwide, and the numbers are growing. Over the years, we have seen numerous expansion packs from the Warcraft franchise. They continue to break new ground with its recent launch of their their 3rd expansion pack ... Cataclysm. Cataclysm is Blizzard's 3rd expansion pack for WoW. It was launched on December 2010, and on it's first month, it sold 4.7 million copies worldwide ... a new record for monthly PC-game sales.

So what is World of Warcraft all about? I'm sure most of you know, but for those who don't know ... World of Warcraft is what's known as a MMO (massively multiplayer online) or MMORPG (massively multiplayer online role playing game). Players control a character or avatar within a game world. They can explore the landscape, fight and kill monsters, complete quests, and interact with non-player characters or other players. WoW players can spend hours or even days playing the game. Analysts described WoW as one of the most addictive games ever. Apart from the initial sales from the game itself, Blizzard also makes their money via paid subscription, or by users buying prepaid game cards. WoW is big business with a reported annual gross revenue of USD $1.5 billion ... yes, it's NOT a typo. It's for real!

To celebrate the launch of Blizzard's WoW: Cataclysm expansion pack ... Steelseries have released a MMO gaming mouse designed specifically for this game. Of course, you can use this mouse as a normal mouse, but the whole point of this particular mouse, is to fully maximise the gamer's controls and thus provide a better gaming experience.

In this review, we will be taking a look at the Steelseries WoW:Cataclym MMO gaming mouse. It's a laser gaming mouse that features a massive 14 programmable buttons, braided cord, gold-plated USB connector and an adjustable (software controlled) LED with a choice of upto 16 million colors. You can also save your own macros and store upto 10 different profiles. The CPI (counts per inch) can be adjusted from 800 all the way upto 5,000 for super accurate precision. It's got good ergonomics, great looking design and offers smooth playing experience.

I have to admit, I'm not a big fan of MMO/MMORPG ... I'm more of a FPS (first person shooter) man myself. But I can see why WoW is so appealing and addictive. When you play the character, you're emmersed in another world ... a gaming experience like no other. Luckily for me, I haven't fallen into that addictive trap ... but I've seen many of my friends waste lose hundreds of hours playing WoW.

The specifications and features of the Steelseries WoW:Cataclym MMO gaming mouse does looks very impressive. I mean 14 programmable buttons ... that's just crazy! The software/drivers allow you to assign different actions or controls for each button, allowing quick and easy access. This is could be vitally important, especially during intense battles, where there's so much happening onscreen.

WoW players should love this mouse ... but how does it feel and play, really? OK, let's get on with it and take a closer look at the specifications of the Steelseries WoW:Cataclym MMO gaming mouse ...
