Verdict and Conclusion

Introduction

The digital age is awash in devices that charge via USB port. Cell phones, MP3 players, some cameras, tablets, it seems like almost everything with a battery charges via USB.

This results in a computer with cables coming out of it every which way, or black boxes shoved into every outlet within reach. Neither solution is exactly attractive. Newer Technology aims to change that. They have come out with a wall outlet that has two high current USB charging ports built into it!

To the best of my knowledge this is a first, and it's an idea I rather like. If it works as well in reality as it does in theory, this is a fantastic idea. I will, of course, check how it works here in reality.

Generally at this point the company gets some space to talk about themselves, copied from their About Us page. Newer Technology's About Us page is a huuuuuge list of accomplishments sorted by year/month, far too large to fit here in full. I'll copy a few though.

July 2012
Newer Technology, Inc. unveils the new miniStack Storage Solution designed to stylishly match the appearance and size of 2010 and later Mac mini computers. The "Quad Interface" miniStack offers up to 4TB of storage with data rates up to 500MB/s for maximum versatility. And users can conveniently stack two or more miniStacks for a true "power tower."

April 2012
NewerTech announces a performance upgrade of the Voyager S3 drive docking solution for up to 36% faster data transfer rates – achieving nearly 300MB/s real-world sustained data rates – over its USB 3.0 SuperSpeed interface.

They go back a long way, too. Here're the two oldest:

Timeline - 1990's
The 1990's brought automated surface-mount capabilities in-house to provide highest quality memory upgrade manufacturing. Added SCSI to DART product. Apple, Inc.® uses Newer Technology, Inc. memory modules in its first PowerBook® demonstrations in 1991.

Faced with changing market conditions in the late 1990's, the Newer Technology product line was expanded to include MAXPower multi-speed processor accelerators for Macintosh computers. Newer Technology was the first company in the world to offer processor upgrades for Power Macintosh 604, Power Mac® G3, Power Mac G4, iMac® G3, iMac G4, PowerBook® 603e, and PowerBook G3 machines.

Timeline - 1980's
In the 1980's the first company to develop and sell memory products for the Macintosh® computer line. The DART high-density memory system increased computer performance up to 2000%. The Attention! memory board and hardware/software upgrades were unveiled for both IBM®-compatible and Macintosh computers.
