Introduction

I remember the first time when Asus introduced their 7" EeePC about 2 years ago. It was probably one of the most sought after product of its kind. A complete portable PC system that's only slightly bigger than DVD case. What's more, it's able to run Windows XP Home ... perfect for web browsing, emails, watching movies and listening to MP3s. It may not be as powerful as other notebooks at that time, but then again it wasn't meant to be.

It's now 2010, and netbooks are widely available from different manufacturers in all sorts of shapes and sizes. In fact, netbooks these days have now become more like mini laptops, with most of them powered by Intel ATOM processors. Screen sizes have also grown larger, from 7" to 10-11" and in some cases upto 12".

In this review, we'll be taking a look at the Samsung N210 Netbook. It's powered by an Intel ATOM N470 processor running at 1.83Ghz, and comes with 1Gb DDR2 ram. For storage, you get a 250Gb SATA hard drive, and for display you get a 10.1" WSVGA back-lit LED screen with a maximum resolution of 1024x600. As for connectivity, there's 54G WiFi, Bluetooth and traditional LAN (RJ45). And finally, it comes with a 6-cell battery offering upto a massive 12 hours of usage. All-in-all, it offers everything you need in a netbook.

One of the most interesting feature of the netbook is that Samsung have included something called "Instant On". Basically it allows you to access the Internet without waiting for Windows to boot. Just turn the N210 on, and when the booting screen appears, press the F6 key to cue the HyperSpace software. So, now you can instantly start reading your email, surf the web, listen to music, watch videos and update your Facebook.

Samsung like top manufacturers such as Asus and Sony, pride themselves in their brand name and product quality. So it comes to no surprise that Samsung made sure, that their netbooks are a cut above the rest in terms build quality, features and performance.

It will be interesting to see how this netbook from Samsung will perform. Armed with an Intel ATOM N470 processor, I'm expecting better performance over the N450 ... but by how much? I'll also be looking at the build quality and what extra features the Samsung N210 offers. OK, let's not waste anymore time and take a closer look at the specifications of the netbook ...
