Introduction

We have another Big PSU review for you today! This isn't the first PC Power and Cooling unit we've looked at. Nor is it the first from their Silencer Mark III series, as we previously reviewed the 600w unit from that series.

Today's unit is a bit different though, mostly in that it can put out twice the wattage and at a far higher efficiency level. Both things are good tricks, as 80+ Bronze is solid efficiency and 600w isn't exactly small.

As you've probably gathered from the title, today's unit is the PC Power and Cooling Silencer Mark III 1200w 80+ Platinum. If it lives up to what it says it can do, it's one hell of a unit.

Given past PC Power and Cooling results I expect it'll survive load testing and TEUW, but I'll check anyway! First though, a bit about PC Power and Cooling from their webpage.

On April 19,1985, PC Power & Cooling began operations in a small warehouse just outside of San Diego, CA. Founded by Doug Dodson, a commodity trader and electronic hobbyist, the company's first products were custom fans to cool and quiet computers.

In 1986, the company introduced its Silencer 150 and Turbo-Cool 200, the industry's first ultra-quiet and high-performance power supplies. Other high-end products followed, the reviews were great, and the company continued to grow. In 1991, the company moved to its current facility in San Diego, CA.

Over the last 25 years, PC Power & Cooling has produced many innovative products including: the first CPU cooler, the first PC heat alarm, the first independently-regulated PC power supply, the first redundant power system, the first NVIDIA-certified SLI supply, the first One Kilowatt computer power supply, and the first power supply with its own certified test report (Turbo-Cool 1KW).

PC Power & Cooling takes pride in its loyal and knowledgeable customer base, its ultra-reliable product line, its professional and friendly staff, and its financial strength.

It doesn't mention that OCZ bought them out a few years ago. Interestingly a few years ago OCZ PSUs suddenly got significantly better... In any case, from what I've read PC Power and Cooling has been left mostly to its own devices and has retained their own design and support staff.

Let's cut to the marketing, and check out the features and specifications.
