Verdict and Conclusion

I was excited to receive these fans from Jou Jye Computer, not many people have heard of Jou Jye, but in testing their PSUs I found that they're one of the few companies around that are willing to think outside the box.  Not just a little bit outside the box either, but far enough outside to challenge the basic assumptions of the computing world.  Desktop PSUs that are built to link together?  Sure!  Fans that run anywhere from 3.3v to 13v?  Absolutely!  I can't wait to see what they come up with next.

I am quite impressed with the BW-1225P-LV fans.  On high they move a lot of air without obnoxious noises, while on medium speed and low speed they are very quiet indeed.

Not only is the performance excellent, they also come with nice long cables which makes cable management nice and easy.

The only negative thing I found is the requirement to use one STA per fan if you want multiple fans at the same speed, that can eat up an entire SATA cable right quick if you have multiple fans.  On the other hand you can buy a Y connector and remove that issue, so it isn't a huge problem.

Even more exciting to me is that if you have a variable voltage fan controller (most fan controllers are) you will be able to dial in any voltage between 3v and 13v and the fan will not only run, but start as well.  No other fan I know of can do that.

The MSRP on these fans is $12, which includes the STA adapter of course and is an excellent value.

To be concise, there are pros:

  • Huge voltage range.
  • Very quiet at low speed.
  • Moves lots of air at high speed without nasty noises.
  • STA adapter is 100% efficient and very simple to use.
  • Simple black styling fits in with any build.
  • Long cables make cable management a snap.
  • Great price.

Nothing being perfect, there are cons too:

  • Packaging a little flimsy.
  • STA adapter only has one output per speed.
  • Instructions for moving the tachometer pin to the main connector would be nice

That's it for cons, there is really very little wrong with this setup!

In conclusion, I'm giving the Jou Jye Computer BW-1225P-LV Low Voltage Fan a score of 9.4/10 and a Recommended badge.  This is a very nice fan.
