Verdict & Conclusion

Build quality on the Nexus 7 is up there with the best. When you buy a $200 tablet you generally don't expect to have that kind of quality.

But since Google and Asus chose to skip out on rarely used things like a rear facing camera allowed them to save cash and put that money into other more used components.

Battery life is good, with general daily use you can expect 7-9hrs depending on what you do.

While there are tablets out there with a better battery life, you would need to spend much more money to get that longer battery life.

Just like battery life, the screen is solid. Colors are quite good, although it does have a tendency to become a bit washed out with the highest brightness levels. This does not take away from the viewing experience, but it is something to be aware of.

Android 4.2 Jellybean is the best running version of android to date. Everything is very smooth and there was only one instance throughout testing that there was a slowdown which happened to be an issue with netflix. Since this device is a Nexus device you can look forward to getting the Android 5.0 Key lime pie update soon after it is released.

Performance is quite good, once again it is not the fastest out there but when you can give very similar performance to top of the line tablets and phones it is very easy to recommend the Nexus 7.

When it comes to price the 16gb version of the Nexus 7 can be found for $199.99 from the google play store. If you are looking for more storage, the 32gb version comes in at $249.99. Both versions are a steal considering the competition. This tablet is a powerhouse and is very hard to beat if you are at the $200 price point. The only real competition at this price point is the Kindle Fire HD, but when it comes to useability the Kindle Fire feels a tablet made for little children when compared with the Nexus 7.

Pros:

  • Price
  • Quad-Core processor
  • Solid build quality
  • Newest versions of Android straight from Google
  • Good battery life

Cons:

  • No rear facing camera
  • Washed out colors at highest screen brightness

Final Words: If you are looking for a budget tablet look no further. When it comes to bang for the buck there simply is no competition, the Nexus 7 leaves all other tablets in the dust and shows how good a device can be when Google is in charge of development.
