Not sure if anyone has any ideas where I could start with this but here goes...

I've just installed Windows 7 on my PC, I've not really had a great deal of time to play around with it yet, but it seems that when I shut down the PC now it doesn't shutdown the PC completely - the screen, keyboard and mouse etc go off but all the fans and lights on my case stay on!

I had a similar problem if I let Vista go into power-save mode and then woke it up and tried to shut it down, but it only ever did it if I left it to go into power-save mode first, whereas Windows 7 seems to do it as standard.

I'm sure it's some simple BIOS option or something, but I'm not entirely sure what it would be... Any ideas?

Hi Ap, I assume you're shutting down your PC via the shut-down on the start menu (that sounds daft!) Have you tried shutting it down via the power button to see if that is any different. Also I guess you have noticed that there are "switch user, log off, lock, restart and sleep. Are all these there as a drop down ? Try "log off" and see what happens.
Go in to control panel and select small or large icons to get a proper view of what's in there. Go to power settings and that may give you a clue.

On my Win 7 rig the shut-down problem was caused by the Lightscribe burner not having the lightscribe software loaded. You may also be missing a driver somewhere.
Was it an upgrade from Vista ? if so it could be the upgrade process that has caused a bug. A complete fresh install may be necessary. A huge amount of help is available for Win 7, Click on help and support on the bottom right right hand side of your start menu. There is a "type in a question box" at the top of the window that opens. Best of luck my friend, I'm sure it's curable

Fixed, apparently my IEEE 1394 Host Controller was not allowing the OS to turn off the device to save power - it's an option in it's properties page in Device Manager. It seems to be a common problem with my make of motherboard (Asus P5B). After ticking the box to allow Windows to turn it off it now turns off my PC completely on shutdown...
