  • AMD have probably priced it that high because it's currently the fastest card.  I think when Nvidia bring theirs out in a few months time and probably beat it then AMD will put the price down.

  • It absolutely murders the GTX580 when overclocking, and nvidia hasn't dropped the price of the 580.
Hence AMD can price it higher than the 580, which means higher than $500.

It's brutal, but then again it's a brutal card  >:D

  • It is indeed an amazing card and the overclocking results is phenomenal. As with everything here though, it's overpriced, the ASUS 7970 here costs R7300.00 and that equals to $895 USD.
It's very sad but hey, one can dream and drool.  :'(

  • Here in the US the price is about right for it's performance, on newegg.com at least.
Amazon is already gouging, I expect newegg to jack the price up too.
It has nothing to do with AMD, blame the rebranders (all "reference" cards are made by Foxxcon in China) and retailers.

  • Mmmmm, never knew that all reference cards where made by Foxxcon. It's a good thing I never bought a reference design card then. I have the Intel DP45SG motherboard that was made by Foxxcon and it's just a horrible piece of circuitry.  :-X
