Considerations when Choosing a Competitive Gaming Mouse

When it comes to PC gaming, most gamers will eventually outfit their set up with a gaming mouse. This is because when gaming takes on highly competitive proportions a simple PC mouse lacks the accuracy and design to give a die-hard player the cutting edge they need.

But choosing your first gaming mouse is not like buying a PC mouse.  There are many different shapes, styles and designs of Gaming Mice and players should factor in their needs and the type of games they like to play when making this decision. The best gaming mouse is the right one for you specifically, as it needs to fit your needs.

Following is the Basic Guide to Choosing your Gaming Mouse, this will walk you through some of the most important considerations and how to make the right choice for you.

Wireless or Wired Mice

The wireless option will allow you to play from the other side of the room and looks really nice. This flexibility allows gamers to play from television sets and generally promotes greater gaming flexibility. Nevertheless, even with the apparent superiority of wireless mice, there are some reasons a wired mouse, with a more secure connection, will serve you better.

First and foremost is transmission lag which is the worst enemy of competitive gaming. Consider that most games, like strategy games or first person shooter, come down to who can point and attack fastest, a slight delay of even a microsecond can make the difference between the quick and the dead.

With this in mind games that are based by turns or are more tolerant to a slightly slower reaction time, will work well with a wireless mouse, otherwise go WIRED.  Here are some good tips.

Select the Sensor

There are three different sensors which control the mouse, these are mechanical mice which use the heavy rubber ball, then two types of optical sensors the laser type and the infrared type. Very few PC gamers will choose the mechanical option as it is the most prone to malfunction.

On the other hand, the optical mouse has none of these problems. But choosing between the laser and the infrared mouse is in itself trickier. The laser mouse is by far the more sensitive of the two and this goes along way in terms of reaction time. However, the infrared option is far more suited to being used on rugged or slightly uneven surfaces that will send a laser mouse out of whack.

In the end, gamers on the go will probably prefer a infrared optical mouse, while those gamers who have set up a formidable gaming pad and are ready to shred with the big dogs, had better go with the laser option.

Choosing the Grip

Different people hold their controls in different ways, which is why ergonomically-minded manufacturers will design different styles to accommodate the different grips their clients are more comfortable with. Choosing the wrong grip can result in poor gaming, not to mention cramped postures and muscle strain.

Generally there are three grip types to choose from.

The Fingertip Grip

This is the most “ideal” sort of gamer mouse, this way the fingers are hovering above the buttons and ready to dispatch commands at high speeds. This style does put strain on the arm, which is more obvious on the third or fourth game.

The Palm Grip

The most common gaming mouse is the Palm Grip style, this one offers the most support for the hands and arm because the entire palm can be rested on the mouse. This allows a gamer to play comfortable for many hours without developing muscle cramps.

The Claw Grip

This mouse type puts the hand in an odd position, where the fingers are crooked over the mouse with fingertips on the buttons. This reputedly allows for a faster response time but also strains the hand.

Final Notes — the style and quality of the equipment you choose to use in your gaming will ultimately decide how enjoyable and rewarding your experience is. Take time to choose the best options before and you will be much happier with the results.

Making a decision on what you want or like from the above information will ensure you get a better gaming mouse.
