7 Great Tips to help save and conserve your iPhone's battery life

I've been a pround owner of an iPhone 3GS when it was released in 2009, but I skipped out on the iPhone 4 in 2010. It's now 2011 and guess what? Yup! I went ahead and turned once more to the "dark side" and now I'm a proud owner of the iPhone 4S. I have to say ... I did miss using the iPhone. In my opinion, Apple's iOS is probably one of their best achievements to date. The iOS is so smooth, easy to use and the apps are just amazing ... hundreds of thousands to choose from.

I've used an Android based phone before (last year while waiting for the iPhone 4S), and although it did give me a breath of fresh air ... the Android OS is still growing and maturing. Having said that, it shouldn't be long before it catches up with Apple's iOS, but until then ... I'm once more an iPhone man! Sorry to disappoint you guys.

There's one thing which has always been the "Achilles Heel" for Apple when it comes to the iPhone. Yes, you've guessed it ... it's the iPhone's terrible battery life. Basically it sucks. Without question I need to charge it daily, usually before I go to bed, which is OK. But if I heavily use iPhone during the day (3G, Internet + Talk time) ... I'll need to charge it half way through the day, which is extremely annoying!

So what's the solution? Well, you can get yourself an additional 3rd-party battery pack, which kinda clips on like a cover, but this increases the weight and bulkiness of the iPhone. The other solution is wait for Apple to come up with an iOS update which they claim fixes the problem. The latest update is version 5.0.1, which you can download via your iTunes. Apparently, the update helps prolong the battery life on the iPhone 4S. Does it work? Well, that's open to debate. For me, nothing really noticeable to be honest.

That said, there are certain things you can do on your iPhone which can help prolong the battery life. Here are some tips ...

Turn off Wifi if you're not using it. This will prevent the iPhone searching for active Wifi hotspots.

Turn off Location Services. If you don't need this feature, turn it off. It could help conserve battery life.

Turn off Auto Brightness. Manually set the brightness level to low. Again this could help save battery life.

For iPhone 4S users.Turn Siri off. Only switch it on if you need to use it. Siri uses the internet for answers and feedback. By turning Siri off, it could help conserve battery life.

Turn off Bluetooth. It will prevent the iPhone from actively searching for BT devices, and therefore could save battery life. Again, only switch it on if you need to use it.

Needless to say ... make sure your Personal Hotspot is turned off. This feature drains your battery like there's no tomorrow!

Most overlooked. Vibrate uses battery power. Turn it off if you don't need it.

I hope this article has helped you conserve your iPhone's battery life. It may not drastically improve your battery life ... because it all depends on how you use the iPhone. At least you know you've done everything possible.
