It's all about saving power and reducing the heat from these high end processors ... Intel's latest generation of processors will do just that.

"Intel has formally launched its Haswell family of processors. The firm says the chips offer improved battery life and a leap in graphics power over the previous generation.

Intel is the leading PC chip-maker and its product refreshes typically spur on new laptop and desktop sales. Computers using the chips have already been unveiled at the Computex tech show. However, studies suggest the market is in decline because of competition from smartphones and tablets.

Most smart devices are powered by chips based on designs by the British firm ARM rather than the x86 architecture used by Intel. Even so, Intel said Haswell would allow laptops and two-in-one devices - offering both a laptop and tablet experience - to become thinner and last longer between charges, increasing their appeal.

It added that one version of the new chips featured CPU (central processing unit) cores which used just six watts of scenario design power - its power usage during "regular" tasks. Intel said this was low enough for Haswell to be used in "cooler, quieter, fanless designs"."

Sounds interesting ... a removable trackpad that can turn into a mouse. Well, that's what MSI are attempting with their laptops.

"The problem with laptop trackpads: they're usually not very good. But would turning the touchpad into a mouse solve the problem? Perhaps. That's what MSI seems to be attempting with its MouseBook concept. In essence, it's a laptop with a trackpad that can pop out and then be used as a standalone mouse. As you can see in the photo above, there's a release switch for removing the pad.

Once it's out, you can move it across your desk as you would a mouse, as opposed to just using it as an external trackpad. It connects over Bluetooth and, as you'd expect, it recharges when it's inside the laptop. What we find most intriguing, perhaps, is the fact that when you remove the trackpad, a flat surface rises up to fill the space so that you're not left with a gaping hole in your palm rest"
