Great for spying I suppose ... I mean what else can you do with it, really?
"A digital camera that functions like an insect's compound eye is reported in the journal Nature this week. It comprises an array of 180 small lenses, which, along with their associated electronics, are stretched across a curved mounting.
The prototype currently has few pixels, so its images are low-resolution. But the device displays an immense depth of field, and a very wide-angle view that avoids the distortion seen in standard camera lenses.

The development team, led from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, US, believes its new imaging system could eventually find uses in surveillance and for endoscopic investigations of the human body."

Interesting ... touchscreen notebooks at low prices, now that's a refreshing change.
"Acer plans to release an 11.6-inch touchscreen notebook in mid-May, priced at only US$399 and since such a price point has already hit brand vendors' bottom line, there is unlikely to be any other touchscreen notebooks with an even lower price to appear in the short term, according to sources from the upstream supply chain.

The touchscreen notebook and its touch panel glass, are both manufactured by Wistron. Compared to Corning's Gorilla, Wistron's solution using soda lime as material, is about 10% cheaper, but it is inferior in terms of both quality and rigidness; however, the solution still receives broad adoption in notebook products, the sources said."

Not sure what planet he's on ... but a bold claim! It's more likely that tablets will be around for quite some time.
"Thorsten Heins thinks that tablets are a dead end. When it comes to forward-looking progress in the mobile sector, most people aren't looking to companies like BlackBerry for direction. Instead, most people look towards Google, Apple, Amazon, and to a lesser extent these days, Microsoft.

However, BlackBerry, which is soon set to launch its "old school" QWERTY-equipped Q10 smartphone, has gone against the grain and given a dire prediction for the future of tablets. “In five years I don’t think there’ll be a reason to have a tablet anymore,” said BlackBerry CEO Thorsten Heins while being interviewed at the Milken Institute conference. “Maybe a big screen in your workspace, but not a tablet as such. Tablets themselves are not a good business model.”

If you want to buy back shares and fund the extra payouts to shareholders ... you need to raise the cash!
"Apple has raised $17bn (£10.9bn) via a bond sale, the biggest ever by a non-banking company, to help fund its plan for extra payouts to shareholders. Last week, it said it will buy back $60bn in shares, and raise its dividend to shareholders by 15%.

Apple's bond sale, its first in nearly two decades, comes despite the firm having cash reserves of $145bn. However, most of that money is sitting in accounts outside the US and would be liable for US taxes if repatriated.
At the same time, interest rates in the US are currently near record lows - helping drive down cost of raising funds for companies. That makes it cheaper for Apple to raise the money through a bond issue, even though it will attract interest payments."

Well at least it's pretty unique ...
"Tokyoflash is known for crafting some seriously cryptic, over-the-top timepieces, and its latest efforts are no exception. Today, the company announced a revised pair of wristwatches that aim to pull your attention away from your smartphone's clock.

Unlike the original Kisai Rogue SR2, its wooden successor is a combination of maple and sandalwood wrapped around a prominent always-on LCD lined with a circle of connecting blocks in place of a traditional set of numbers. The watch's display comes in three natural colors -- we know red and green are on deck but the third remains a mystery (though blue seems a safe bet)."
