Casio’s Announces Trailblazing Pro Trek Smart Outdoor Watch

Casio America, Inc. announced today the global launch of its new PRO TREK Smart Outdoor Watch (WSD-F20). First unveiled in January at CES 2017, the WSD-F20 is powered by Android Wear 2.0 and is optimal for the outdoors, boasting GPS capabilities, full color map display, offline map usage functionality, water resistance up to 50 meters, and tested to military standard specifications to ensure it can withstand a range of rugged activities and adventures.

The new WSD-F20 is equipped with built-in, low-power GPS and full color map functionality that can be used offline, significantly improving its usability as a standalone wrist device. It supports a wide range of outdoor and water activities and can be used in areas without cellular service, freeing up users to fully enjoy their adventures. The watch is enhanced through richly-designed and easy-to-read map data from Mapbox, which is used worldwide. Maps can be downloaded in advance to the WSD-F20 and used with GPS data to track the user’s location, even when offline.

Location Memory and Moment Setter Apps

The new Location Memory app instantly reads the user’s current location, and is directly accessed by pressing a side button. In addition to recording the path traveled, users can make a mark or use speech recognition* to add notes to otherwise unmarked map spots, such as a great viewpoint on a hike or an ideal fishing spot. Navigation and Reminder functions are useful when revisiting a location that has been noted on a map. The user can also choose from a variety of map designs based on what they are doing and what they are using the maps for.

Additionally, Casio’s Moment Setter app alerts the user to important moments while hiking, cycling, fishing, or enjoying snow or paddle sports. The user sets conditions to automatically receive important alerts, such as best fishing times, rest break intervals, and sunrise/sunset times.

Expanded iOS Functionality

With Android Wear 2.0, Casio’s WSD-F20 now has expanded iOS functionality. When using iOS, the WSD-F20 will receive MOMENT SETTER+ notifications (excluding information of approaching/leaving and from/to the registered point); sunrise, sunset, tide graph and activity; Google Play store app connectivity with Wi-Fi connection; use of partner apps including YAMAP and Viewranger; and the ability to search your smartphone or access contact information via the watch. Additional watch face options will also be available in the Play store.

Battery Life and Design

The WSD-F20’s battery life depends on usage conditions, but is typically one to two days under normal use. When GPS is enabled, battery life ranges from six hours to two days. When only the Timepiece Mode is used and GPS is disabled, battery life extends to roughly a month or more.

Designed with a soft urethane band, button guards, a protective bezel, and side buttons of varying sizes, the WSD-F20 offers enhanced operability and toughness, making it an even more useful piece of outdoor gear. It is available now in black and orange for a MSRP of $500.00 online at ShopCasio and Amazon, as well as select retailers nationwide including REI and Macy’s.
