DJI Launches Mavic Pro Foldable Drone

Merely a week after GoPro launched its first drone which is called Karma and happens to be foldable, DJI today introduced a new foldable drone called the Mavic Pro. Like the Karma, the DJI drone is said to be versatile enough to fit inside a backpack. DJI has come up with an interesting folding system which folds the front two arms into the body and the rear arms underneath the drone itself. Even the propellers are foldable.

The DJI Mavic Pro happens to be lighter than the Karma – 1.65 pounds to its competitor’s 2.22 pounds. It flies like a DJI Phantom drone, capable of reaching speeds of up to 40 miles per hour in Sport Mode.

Customers can also opt to purchase the drone with a foldable controller that provides can encrypted 4.3 mile range as well as support for 1080p streaming to a paired smartphone. This enables users to live stream their footage to servces like Periscope, Facebook Live, and YouTube via the DJI companion app. Those who don’t buy the controller can easy fly the drone using the smartphone app. According to DJI, the Mavic Pro’s batteries are good for 27 minutes on a single charge.

The drone features a 12 megapixel camera which is capable of shooting 4K video at 30 frames per second and 1080p at 96 fps. It can also take still photographs in portrait and landscape mode. DJI Mavic Pro also has some good software features as well like ActiveTrack which can be used to keep the drone locked on you as you do interesting stuff you want to capture from a drone’s perspective.

DJI is now taking pre-orders for the Mavic Pro which costs $999 with and $749 without the controller. Shipments start mid-October.
