No, it's not science fiction ... it is infact REAL. Quantum computers do exist and it's now being used by Nasa, Google and Universities. Developed by D-Wave Systems ... this supercomputer is said said to be up to 3,600 times faster than conventional computers.
"A $15m computer that uses "quantum physics" effects to boost its speed is to be installed at a Nasa facility. It will be shared by Google, Nasa, and other scientists, providing access to a machine said to be up to 3,600 times faster than conventional computers.

Unlike standard machines, the D-Wave Two processor appears to make use of an effect called quantum tunnelling. This allows it to reach solutions to certain types of mathematical problems in fractions of a second. Effectively, it can try all possible solutions at the same time and then select the best.
Google wants to use the facility at Nasa's Ames Research Center in California to find out how quantum computing might advance techniques of machine learning and artificial intelligence, including voice recognition. University researchers will also get 20% of the time on the machine via the Universities Space Research Agency (USRA)."

Intel's new series 8 motherboards are starting to appear ... Asus are among the first to unveil their new motherboards using Intel's latest chipset.
"Asustek Computer has unveiled its latest Intel 8 series motherboards ahead of the chipset's official launch on June 2 as the company received Intel's agreements for allowing partial leakage.

Asustek revealed the Z87-Deluxe motherboard that supports the most functions and features advanced connectivity; the Z87-A that features mainstream designs; the Z87-Pro, the Z87-Plus, the Z87I-Deluxe with mini-ITX form factor and the Z87-WS for workstations.
Asustek's new motherboards will also feature some exclusive technologies such as EPU for power saving, TPU for boosting CPU performance, DIGI+VRM for digitalized power supply management and Fan Xpert2 for cooling fan adjustment."

MSI teams up with AMD and shows of their GX70 laptop ... featuring AMD's flagship Radeon HD 8900M mobile GPU. It looks darn sexy ... let me tell you!
"The company has just unveiled the 8900M series, an adaptation of its Graphics Core Next architecture for desktop replacement-class gaming laptops. To call it a big jump would be an understatement: compared to the 8800M, the flagship 8970M chip doubles the stream processors to 1,280, hikes the clock speed from 725MHz to 850MHz and bumps the memory speed slightly to 1.2GHz.

The net effect is about 12 to 54 percent faster game performance than NVIDIA's current mobile speed champion, the GTX 680M, and up to four times the general computing prowess in OpenCL. The 8970M is more than up to the task of powering up to 4K in one screen, and it can handle up to six screens if there are enough ports."

SSD will dominate the storage market throughout 2013 and right through to 2017 ... that's according.
"Global shipments of solid state drives (SSD) in PCs are set to rise by a factor of seven by 2017, allowing them to claim more than one-third of the market for PC storage solutions by that time, IHS iSuppli said in its new report.

SSD shipments in PCs will rise to 227 million units in 2017, up more than 600% from 31 million in 2012, IHS predicted. Meanwhile, shipments of PC hard disk drives (HDD) will decline to 410 million in 2017, down 14% from 475 million in 2012."

Intel ramps up their attack on the market by introducing their low-power chips. Ideal for smartphones and even data centers.
"Intel has announced its new microarchitecture named Silvermont, aimed at low-power requirements in market segments from smartphones to the data center. The Silvermont will be the foundation for a range of products beginning to come to market later this year (2013), and will also be manufactured using the company's 22nm Tri-Gate SoC manufacturing process.

The Silvermont microarchitecture also features a new out-of-order execution engine; a new multi-core and system fabric architecture; new IA instructions and technologies and enhanced power management capabilities including a new intelligent burst technology, low- power C states and a wider dynamic range of operation taking advantage of Intel's 3D transistors."
