Conclusion and Verdict

The Asus ROG Swift PG248Q is a stunning monitor to look at. It has a sleek ROG-themed design and come with a red LED ring, which makes it look pretty cool. The picture is sharp and bright. It’s has a low 1ms response time, and it’s Nvidia’s G-SYNC ready, which synchronizes the monitor’s refresh rate to your GeForce GTX based graphics card.

The hero feature of this monitor is the overclockable refresh rate of up to 180Hz (native 144Hz), to give you seamless visuals and super-smooth gameplay. I also like the GamePlus and GameVisual hotkeys, which allows me to switch between different profiles for optimized visuals.

I always thought that refresh rates higher than 60Hz was just a gimmick. I didn’t believe it at first, but I saw how smooth everything was during game play, I completely shocked. To the average user, the higher refresh rate may not be of any benefit, but the for the serious gamer … the smoothness and lag-free visuals can make all the difference.

There is one thing you need to know about this monitor is that it uses a TN panel as opposed to a IPS panel. TN panels offers fast response times required for gaming however, the draw back is the limited viewing angles and lower color reproduction. It is a “gaming” monitor after all. Still, you do get 170°(H)/160°(V), which is more than enough, and the color reproduction as well as contrast ratio is very good.

At the end of the day for most users … Asus ROG Swift PG248Q is essentially just a 24″ monitor with some nice gaming features added. So is it really worth paying $400+ for a 24″ monitor? … especially, when there are similar spec’d monitors from other brands selling at a much lower price. The simple answer is yes.

Price-wise, the Asus ROG Swift PG248Q will cost you around USD $415, which is a little too pricey for my liking. Drop the price to around $350 or less, then you would have real winner.
