ADATA XPG v3 8GB DDR3-2933 CL12 Memory Review

Conclusion

The ADATA XPG V3 8GB DDR3-2933 memory is for sure a great looking memory. We can also change fins from the red to the gold color which is only available in this memory series. In this way, the XPG V3 memory fits to most gaming and enthusiast PC color schemes.

ADATA has also improved the PCB and picked the high quality memory chips. All that is great but it does not change the fact that we could expect higher performance from a DDR3-2933 memory kit. The performance gain will not be noticeable if we are already using DDR3-2133 or a higher memory kit. A couple of benchmarks will show the advantage of higher clocked memory but applications that we are using every day or games will perform almost the same.

If we decide to buy the ADATA XPG V3 memory then we can have some problems as it is scarcely available in most of the popular online stores (even the larger). I have found the 8GB (2x4GB) ADATA XPG V3 DDR3-2933 kit for about $270 in couple of smaller stores. That is a lot for an 8GB kit and I am sure that we could easily find a 2x8GB DDR3-2400 memory kit which would have higher capacity and about the same performance.

I have already mentioned this earlier but every higher clocked DDR3 memory has the same problem so it is hard to blame ADATA. The single rank high frequency DDR3 memory is not as fast as we could expect and the high price is for sure not helping. The dual rank (2x8GB) kit will probably perform better but the price will be even higher.

The overclocking potential is for sure the strong side of the XPG V3 DDR3-2933 memory. We could reach DDR3-3333 mark without big problems. I am sure that overclockers will be satisfied of this memory kit. Gamers should better look at lower frequency kits like DDR3-2133 or 2400.

Pros:

  • Great looks
  • Two sets of fins in red and yellow (gold) colors
  • Good overclocking potential
  • Lifetime warranty

Cons:

  • Performance lower than expected
  • Too expensive

Final words:

The ADATA XPG V3 8GB DDR3-2933 is clearly an interesting memory kit, however it is hard to recommend it to most users. For daily work we can use much cheaper kits. Gamers can also use cheaper memory at higher capacity without special performance difference. So who can use the XPG V3 DDR3-2933 memory? Probably only overclockers and computer enthusiasts who are looking more at pure numbers like high frequency than the general performance. Users like that will be for sure satisfied about overclocking headroom which ADATA XPG V3 is offering.

If you are not overclocking then my advice would be to look at the lower frequency ADATA XPG V3 DDR3 memory as it looks great and is certainly high quality product with lifetime warranty.
