G.Skill Trident Z 2x16GB DDR4-3200 CL15 Memory Kit Review

Overclocking

I mentioned on the previous pages of this review that Trident Z memory is based on Samsung IC which is overclocking very well. Higher density modules are harder to overclock but even here we see that Trident Z has potential. I was able to set quite stable DDR4-3600 CL14-14-14 but to make it I had to raise voltage to 1.55V. 1.45V let me overclock this memory to 3600 at 15-15-15 main timings.

Maximum frequency possible on tested memory kit without raising voltage was DDR4-3466 at 15-15-15 timings so the same as XMP profile.

I think these results are great for 2x16GB memory kit and it’s hard to find better on the current memory market.

The only thing which was weird to me was that I couldn’t set CL16 or more relaxed timings. Memory was not working at all and motherboard was showing 55 error code. I won’t complain that on worse timings memory isn’t working but probably that’s why I wasn’t able to set higher memory clock than DDR4-3600.

Below is list of expected memory settings. These settings were working pretty stable but not all were tested in longer stability tests.

As we see, Trident Z has really high overclocking potential so it should satisfy even the most demanding users.
