ASRock X99 Taichi Motherboard Review

Performance

Performance comparisons between motherboards based on the same chipset are usually pointless as results are nearly the same. The only reason why we are testing motherboards is to check if they’re not underperforming ( bad design or BIOS issues ) and if any additional features are causing to run specific ports/controllers faster than expected ( USB, SATA, M.2 ).

Our test motherboard is using the latest 1.40 BIOS/UEFI version. Additionally we’ve used 4x8GB Crucial Ballistix Tactical DDR4-3000 memory and i7 6800K processor overclocked to fully stable 4.2GHz 1.225V. Above you can see CPU-Z screenshot while below there are screenshots from ASRock overclocking software.

I’ve decided to set voltages manually as at auto settings voltages were too high for used processor. Looks like our i7 6800K is much above the average.

Let’s begin with PCMark 8.

PCMark 8 is a long and quite demanding benchmark. It uses popular applications to perform tests. Results on the X99 Taichi are great. There were no issues with stability or temperatures on the overclocked system.

Also 3DMark is working flawlessly. Physics score is as good if not better than expected at our settings.

Used memory kit isn’t the best for overclocking but still was fully stable at DDR4-3200 15-16-16 and 1.35V. ASRock X99 Taichi will be used in the future quad channel memory kits reviews so I guess we will see better results.

Going back to the results, below is screenshot from HyperPi 32M. Result is pretty good.

Results in rendering benchmarks like Cinebench R11.5 and R15 are also good.

ASRock X99 Taichi has been used in some other our reviews like Patriot Hellfire M.2 NVMe SSD or Crucial MX300 1050GB M.2 SATA SSD. In both cases storage performance is great.

Above are results of NVMe drive while below SATA3.

ASRock X99 Taichi is offering high performance and solid platform for a workstation or exceptional gaming computer. It’s well balanced to use in home or professional environment. Especially all who are working with graphics and rendering will be interested in a motherboard like ASRock X99 Taichi.

This board looks really good. I wonder if this is better than the Extreme one…
