Gigabyte Z77X-UD4H Motherboard Review

Verdict and Conclusion

Over the years Gigabyte boards have offered up a good bang for the buck. While they might have be loaded to the brim with features and settings like some other companies you don’t really pay for those features and when compared to boards at the same price level they are a fantastic choice.

With that being said, this board was certainly not perfect. The first board I got from Gigabyte had an issue with shutting down. Gigabyte sent a second board and it did not have that issue at all so I assume it was just a bad apple.

If you are looking at running a USB DAC through one of these boards you might want to be careful on which port you plug it into. Using a Fiio e7 I encountered crashes and BSOD’s when plugging it into the rear pannel USB ports. Once I moved it to the front header ports the issues were gone. I’m not exactly sure what was going on, but if that fixes things I can’t complain too much.

Build quality on the board is quite nice. With the Gigabyte UD4 technology it should last you years into the future and still work just fine (assuming you aren’t someone who upgrades with every new processor or socket).

Shopping around the good old interwebz the Z77X-UD4H can be found right around $165+shipping. At that price it certainly is quite attractive. You get tons of features at that pricepoint while not paying for things you are not very likely to use.

Pros:

  • Voltage Read points
  • UD4 technology
  • 3-way SLI/Crossfire
  • LED Debug screen
  • Low price tag
  • Great looking

Cons:

  • USB sound card issues
  • Bios needs a little work

Final Verdict:

The Z77X-UD4H offers up a great bang for the buck. While it does not have tons of features like some other boards, you are not paying for those features and get all the stability and overclocking potential that you get with boards that cost twice as much. Gigabyte has done a fine job with this board.
