OCZ Fatal1ty 750W Gaming Power Supply Review

Closer Look

Inside the PSU we can find 135 mm 12V Globe Fan rated at 0.45A. It’s hard to read product number but it’s RL4R B1352512HH. Fan’s maximum speed should be approximately 1600 RPM.

As it was already mentioned, fan has red lighting.

Interior looks really tidy. All components have been placed on the black PCB and we can see two not so big heatsinks. With so much free space heatsinks could be larger what would probably cause slower fan spin and general noise reduction. In general it looks pretty good.

Primary capacitor is a Nippon 400v /470µF. It’s rated for 105°C what is great since most PSUs have capacitors rated for 85°C. Some other parts are also higher grade rated for 105°C what makes good general impression.

Wiring and soldering are also good. Especially clean work can be observed on the backplate

OCZ Fatal1ty series, same as all high end PSUs nowadays, also has PC protection features. There is over voltage, over power, short-circuit and over temperature protection. All these features ensure that voltages and temperature are within safe limits and will shut off unit if anything exceedes rated limits.

Testing

Test setup includes Intel Ivy Bridge-E platform. List of components is in the table below:

TestSetup

Voltage regulation

ATX specification allows +/- 5% fluctuations in voltage outputs. Limits for the rails supposed to be within these values:

ATXSpecs

Voltage regulation is pretty good. Maybe is not perfect but hard to complain since all voltages are within ATX specification and fluctuation is approximately +/- 0.05V for +3.3/5V rails and +/- 0.16V for +12V rail.

TestResults

Results based on our test rig are showing that OCZ Fatal1ty 750W PSU is good enough for most gaming PCs where are up to two high end graphics cards.

Noise

OCZ Fatal1ty 750W is nearly silent till 50% load. Above that mark we can hear the fan but it’s still not bad. As I mentioned earlier, probably larger heatsinks would help.  I guess I’m already used to nearly silent OCZ/PC&P Silencer series.

Comparing this PSU to some other units on the market in this price range it still looks pretty good and most gamers should be fully satisfied.
