I hate to be the one to break it to Samsung but, all of us knew that one girl in school that "would." Remember her? Trust us, front and rear touch input has been around for years. :D
The idea is to let users control the device without touching the screen, and perhaps allow them to perform multi-touch inputs from the screen side and the rear side at the same time.
