Flash Your AMD Radeon RX 480 to RX 580 Now!

There have been many reports that you can literally flash your AMD Radeon RX 480 to a RX 580. That’s why I love PCs! You can mod, hack and flash your components to increase performance and more. While many out there might dispute this … I for one think it’s worth a try. The newly flashed RX 480 may not performance as fast as an original RX 580, but what the heck …

WARNING: Flashing your AMD Radeon RX 480 to RX 580 can be unstable and could even kill it! DO NOT ATTEMPT to flash your graphics card if you do not know what you are doing. Funky Kit and its staff or members can not be held responsible for any damages caused. You have been WARNED!

OK, now that I got the disclaimer out of the way … let’s begin! In this example, we used a HIS Radeon RX 480 graphics card.

1. Download the zip file containing the flash program and ROM. You can download it here.

2. Do not run ATIWinflash. This does not work. You have to flash the card via command prompt. Run Command Prompt and go to the folder/directory. Then type this command atiflash -p -f 0 <bios file>
Wait for about 20-30 seconds and you’re done! Restart your computer for it take effect.

3. You can check if it worked right away by going into System Device Manager and your RX 480 should now show up as a Radeon RX 580!

4. Don’t forget to download the latest AMD Radeon drivers. Go here to get them.

5. After you’ve installed your Radeon drivers, you can run MSI’s Afterburner as well as GPU-Z to check the health and information on your newly flashed Radeon RX 580.

I’ve tested the newly flashed Radeon RX 580, and so far there’s not much performance gain … except for the fact that it’s now a Radeon RX 580. In fact, you might even have to use MSI’s Afterburner software to tune down the GPU clock to get some stability when running games.

Test Rig Components

3D Mark Time Spy

Unigine SuperPosition

Incidentally, my original Radeon RX 480’s GPU clock was reporting 1338MHz … but after flashing to RX 580, the GPU clock now reports 1411MHz, that’s an increase of only 73MHz.

You’re probably thinking, it’s pointless … but I’m just one of those guys that love f*@king around with stuff. So why not 😉 Anyway, as I’ve said earlier in the disclaimer … please do not attempt to do this if you do not know what you are doing.

You could try the sapphire one… warning! If you do it you are responsible for your actions. It may damage your card. You have been warned.

OK, just one more question: Is the Sapphire BIOS for a reference RX580? If thats the case, I am going to try it. Got another GPU in my Rig, so even if I brick, in some cases I should be able to recovery with original bios 🙂

Also, I seem to be too stupid to reply, all I can do is creating a new comment. sry for that
