Why We Look Forward To Trying Out The PS5

As the excitement around the Xbox One X dies down following its release, the buzz about future consoles already begins to resonate. While E3 2018 teased us with exciting titles due for release over the next twelve months, the big boys remained relatively tight-lipped about what consoles are on the horizon.

Both Sony and Microsoft have been open in admitting they’re currently working on the next generation of console. While there have been no confirmations, both companies seem to suggest that there is going to be a departure from how consoles are introduced. If speculation is to  be believed, the way that the One X offers an upgrade on a current console, hence enhancing its lifespan, could point to the direction that manufacturers will take. Offering customers the choice between consoles of different specifications, with different budgets in mind, could become the norm.

Anticipating a new console before any actual details have been confirmed is jumping the gun. However, because the One X made such progress, it feels natural to speculate. Without further delay, this article will attempt to explain why we look forward to trying out the PS5.

Backwards compatibility

Outselling their nearest rivals at almost double the rate since the release of the current generation of consoles, Sony has taken a lead over Microsoft in the race wars. However, one way in which the Xbox One has the upper hand over the PS4 is its backward compatibility.

If the rumors spanning the internet are accurate, Sony might be capitalizing on the success of this feature in the future. While this might come in the form of an updated console release, similar to the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X, with Sony alluding to the fact that the PS4 may be coming to the end of its lifespan, it could be a precursor to the PS5’s capabilities.

4K visuals and high dynamic range

When high definition emerged we assumed we had reached the pinnacle of display quality. However, both the PS4 and Xbox One S arrived capable of 4K resolution, enhancing visuals even further.

Not all titles currently available run 4K resolution, so we don’t benefit from its maximum potential. As the technology becomes more affordable and accessible, the next generation of consoles should be capable of visuals unlike we’ve seen before.

Power

Upon its release in November 2016, the PS4 Pro was the most powerful console ever available to the general public. However, with the One X arriving the following year, it’s no surprise that Microsoft had used the time to cram in a little more processing power, usurping their counterpart. Taking each unit’s specifications into consideration, the One X is more powerful than the PS4 Pro in every respect, including processing speed and graphics.

Despite the ongoing advancements with how powerful home consoles are becoming, they still don’t compare to the high-end gaming PCs that are available today. With the emergence of modern virtual reality technology growing in popularity, and the power they need to run efficiently, will we see a dramatic leap in power for the next generation of consoles?

Until Sony release some definite information, the speculation will continue to spread. The next exciting era of console gaming is on the horizon, and there is plenty to get excited about whether you’re looking forward to the next generation of exclusive titles, or where technology will take home gaming. Either way, the potential is unlimited, and we’re counting the days to an official announcement.
