EMF Hong Kong 2017 – Return of the Legends (League of Legends) Finals

Funky Kit is proud to present our event coverage of the EMF Hong Kong 2017 – Epsorts Music Festival.

Hosted at the HK Coliseum (Hung Hom District) and organized by Cyber Games Arena, it’s Hong Kong’s first ever eSports event, featuring 4 teams from the following regions to battle it out in the “Return of the Legends” one-time eSports event. Grand prize for the winning team was around $300,000 HKD (~USD $38,000)

– HK/TW/MO
– Europe
– China
– North America

League of Legends is a multiplayer online battle arena video game developed and published by Riot Games.

The three-day event included activities for gamers and music lovers alike. On the 2nd day (5th Aug) the organizers hosted a concert by k-pop superstars SMTOWN.

And to satisfy the the hungry spectators during the event, a food zone was set up with food trucks selling all kinds of snacks.

The Arena (HK Coliseum)

Around 11,000 eSports fans and spectators packed into the arena. The atmosphere was electrifying! with fireworks and laser show.

There were many media crews covering the event from all over the world, including Asia News Channel, CNBC and of course Funky Kit 😉

First semi-finals was held between teams from HK/TW/MO and Europe on 4th August, with the winner going through to the finals, which was held on 6th August. The other semi-final match was between teams from China and North America.

Monster Girls and Zenox Gaming Chairs

Out side the arena, EMF organizers arranged several booths local vendors to show off their gaming products such as Zenox – makers of gaming chairs. We couldn’t resist to check out the showgirls at the Monster booth (energy drink).

Logitech Pop-Up Store

One of the main sponsors of the EMF event, Logitech has an impressive pop-up store, showing off their gaming accessories including headsets, keyboard and mice.

The Logitech showgirl wasn’t too bad either 😉

Carol from Logitech, was kind enough to show us one of their latest product – a wireless gaming mouse with a wireless charging gaming pad. It looked pretty darn good.

Zotac Pop-Up Store

Zotac was EMF’s title sponsor … and it shows. Their pop-up store was mightily impressive. They has various gaming mini PCs and graphic cards on display. To attract the crowd, they set up their largest ever VR experience zone inside!

We spoke to Chinny Chuang, global PR director for Zotac, and she was kind enough to show us around.

When I show the Zotac GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Mini – Arctic Storm, I fell in love immediately. I would be perfect for my current PC build/Project Yuno Gasai.

Cooler Master MasterCase Pro 6

No gaming eSports event is complete without a mod from Cooler Master. This one was found at the Zotac pop-up store.

This gaming PC was powered by a Zotac graphics card, with and Intel processor cooled by a Cooler Master AIO … all of which was housed in a Cooler Master MasterCase 6 Pro chassis. This one’s for you Raymen!

I really enjoyed the event, and I was pretty surprised to see how professional it was all organized. We should have more in Hong Kong! I can see the eSports and gaming communities within and around region growing tremendously. Let’s hope it will continune …

See you all at the next eSports event!
