Dota 2’s The International Sets New Prize Pool Record at USD $20.8 million

This year’s The International, a competitive Dota 2 event, has reached the largest prize pool in the history of eSports. Beating its own record from 2016, The International 2017 is sitting at $20.8 million and it still has another month of crowdfunding to go.

A notable portion of the money comes from Battle Pass sales. Players can buy the pass each year and receive benefits, in this case a Dota 2 co-op adventure. 25% of the revenue from those sales goes right into The International prize pool.

The event will occur from August 7 to August 12 at the KeyArena in Seattle.
