Hover – Personal Selfie Drone

The Hover is the launch product of Zero Zero Robotics, a firm based in Beijing, China. The company, which raised $25 million in private funding, had been working in secrecy since it was founded in 2014.

It looks nothing like a traditional drone. Roughly the size of a thick book, the Hover’smain body is a square metal cage containing 2 wings on which there are 2 propellers on each wing. Constructed out of carbon fibre, it’s not only is lightweight (0.52 pounds) but also very durable.

Without any tracking system or GPS, the Hover is not designed to fly away so you can take high-altitude photos, as the name suggests, its mean to be your personal selfie drone. The camera can shoot 13MP photos and 4K video at 30fps, and in additional to a single-axis gimbal, it also uses electronic image stabilization to keep the quality of your shots are sharp as possible.

Built around a 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset, the Hover uses complex algorithms required to keep the Hover airborne (there’s no human control), and to track a person’s face or object. Battery time is the main letdown here, as the internal battery once fully charged only gives you 8 minutes of flight and record time.

Availability date has not been set yet, but it is listed at a rather pricey USD$600. Have a look at their website here.
