Microsoft officially kills the Kinect.

Technology giant Microsoft announced earlier that they will cease manufacture of their Kinect sensor for the Xbox line of game consoles.

The news is mostly unsurprising as Microsoft has been updating the Xbox One’s software to make many Kinect exclusive features (voice control and Cortana) work without the device.

When the Xbox One originally launched Microsoft bundled the Kinect with the console but later removed it and sold the device separately in order to lower the cost of the console.

The Kinect did find popularity in the modding and coding scene where it was used as an inexpensive dept sensor and tracker for home-made software and programs.

If for any reason you want a Kinect now but haven’t picked one up now would be the time to grab one, once the current stock is depleted they will be sold out for good.
