Official Canon 5D Mark IV Specs Leaked

After months of rumours, chance sightings and best guesses, the wait is over as full specs for the heavily anticipated Canon 5D Mark IV, the successor to the popular 5D Mark III, have been leaked!

This news comes from the Japanese blog page Nokishita. As a cherry on the sundae they’ve also provided a full set of images of the Mark IV from every angle. After so many tiny slivers of information, it’s all a bit much!

Canon 5D Mark IV

So how does the Mark IV stack up, especially against the previous estimates? Let’s begin by seeing where we were originally misled.

Previous shots in the dark were off target by a wide mark, guessing the unit would be packing a 24.2MP sensor. The 5D Mark IV will actually have a much-improved 30.4MP sensor equipped with dual pixel CMOS AF. We were also told some big fat fibs earlier about it’s potential ISO peaking at 51,200 but with expandable options. In reality the ISO for the new 5D will go up to 32000, with an expandable limit of 102,400.

Many of the other rumours turned out to be accurate. The 5D Mark IV will come with a very respectable 61 AF points and a 7fps burst mode, and WiFi and GPS are also included.

However, there are a whole set of new features that come as a pleasant surprise.

Equipped with a 150,000-pixel RGB + IR photometry sensor, same as the one on 7D Mark II, the 5D Mark IV should be able to achieve even more accurate exposure. For video shooters, the Mark IV can capture at 4K 30fps and users will have the ability to snag individual 8MP JPEGS from the footage in-camera. In addition to this, Canon are including a 120fps Full HD slow motion mode to as well as a timelapse mode.

There are other bells and whistles to the Mark IV’s specs. It’s dustproof and waterproof, comes with anti-flicker, and is compatible with a range of storage mediums including SDXC / SDHC / SD, CompactFlash Type II.
