MEIZU MX6, World’s First Smartphone Featuring Sony Exmore RX IMX 386 Camera, Launched Today

Leading consumer electronics company and smartphone manufacturer MEIZU announced the launch of its latest MX series product, MEIZU MX6, at a product release conference in Beijing today.

The latest product in the MX series, MX6 comes with a number of tech upgrades from previous products and offers the following unique features:

  • Powerful camera with Sony Exmore RS IMX386 CMOS, customized 6-element lens, f/2.0 aperture, 0.2s focus speed and face auto-exposure algorithm
  • TDDI solution and Full In-cell screen
  • All metal body and cambered antenna

The MX6 introduces the Sony Exmore RSIMX 386 in its rear camera. With the single pixel size up to 1.25 µm and a customized 6-element lens, the image quality is greatly improved and the interference from the lens flare is significantly reduced. The high-density phase detection pixel embedded in the sensor brings enhanced focus accuracy and speed, while the front camera utilizes a combination of the 5-megapixel OV5695 sensor, FotoNation 2.0 smart beauty technology and face auto-exposure enhancement algorithm.

MEIZU also adopts touch and display driver integration (TDDI) technology in the MX6 for the first time. Instead of using two ICs for touch and display driving respectively, TDDI technology integrates touch and display driving in one chip. This technology reduces the power consumption during operation and produces a better display effect. Another advantage of the MX6’s full in-cell screen is that it integrates dual-touch sensing in its LCD screen to further optimize the touch component and significantly improve the touch performance.

An aviation aluminum magnesium alloy, which is light but durable, is selected as the body material for MX6 and over a hundred precise processes are needed to render the perfect body design. Among these processes are CNC cutting and engraving, PBT nano-molding, 360-degree high-precision grinding, 3D sand blasting, and colored anodizing. The MX6 also inherits MEIZU’s unique cambered antenna design, with the well-designed curve of the antenna echoing the edges and angles of the body and reflecting the simple and elegant beauty of geometry.

Other features include a MediaTek flagship processor, Helio X20, the world’s first mobile processor with a 10-core Tri-cluster structure. The Tri-cluster structure of the Helio X20 enables dynamic switching among modules based on different task demands.

The MX6 is also equipped with a T880 GPU which increases the unit performance by 80% and energy efficiency by 40% compared to previous T760. It also supports the latest OpenGL® ES 3.1 / DirectX® 11.2 standard. The handset is also backed by a 3060mA (typ.) battery and features mCharge 2.1 technology which offers 25% charge in 10 minutes and full charge in 75 minutes.

“MEIZU added the MX series to its product line back in 2011 to provide more options for consumers who value smartphone features,” said Li Nan, MEIZU’s Vice President. “A variety of MEIZU’s well received features, such as the all-metal body, front fingerprint sensor, ultra-thin bezel, and breathing home button, were first implemented in MX series products and the MX6 is yet another way for us to connect with our customers. We believe it will be a great product in all aspects and we look forward to its becoming popular in the market.”

The new MEIZU MX6 is available in silver, gray, gold and rose gold at USD 300(RMB 1,999) (4GB+32GB).
