Recenty, we reported on the announcement of several Tegra 4 powered devices. NVIDIA has added the new and improved Microsoft Surface 2 to that list. This will surely be a difference maker for Microsoft’s tablet.
“Tegra 4 notched yet another important victory today with Microsoft’s announcement that the mobile processor will power Microsoft’s next-gen Surface 2 tablet.
Tegra 4 will provide a major performance boost over the first-generation Surface RT tablet. Tegra 4’s state-of-the-art ARM Cortex-A15 quad-core CPU and 72 GeForce GPU cores will help the device fly across web browsing, zip through Office applications and deliver immersive DirectX gaming experiences.
In addition to Tegra 4, Surface 2 features several other major improvements.
Not only is it thinner, lighter, faster and longer lasting, but the new 1920×1080 display is also one of the industry’s best high-resolution screens. The ubiquitous Microsoft Office suite is again included, now sporting Outlook — the email and scheduling application of choice for millions of business customers.
These and other improvements set the new Surface 2 apart with an outstanding combination of portability, productivity and rich media support.The news further illustrates Tegra 4’s versatility across a wide range of platforms, including phones, tablets, clamshells, all-in-one PCs, automobiles and gaming devices.
In recent weeks, our partners have rolled out several devices powered by Tegra 4. Among them are the Xiaomi Mi3 smartphone, which captured China by storm; a slew of devices from HP, including the Slate7 Extreme, Slate8 Pro, Slatebook X2, and Slate21 AIO devices; as well as the ASUS Transformer Pad TF701T, Toshiba Excite Pro and Excite Write, and Kobo Arc 10HD tablets.
And, needless to say, Tegra 4 is at the heart of our SHIELD gaming portable and NVIDIA’s new Tegra Note tablet platform.”
