Sony A7S III Reviewed at Engadget – The Best Mirrorless Camera

It may be the ‘best’ camera to some users, but with an eye-popping price tag of USD $3,500 … you can literally go down to your used car dealership and get yourself a second-hand Honda 😛

Taken from Engadget … Sony’s A7S series cameras are famous for their low-light performance and video capabilities, but it’s been five long years since we’ve seen a new model. The mirrorless landscape has changed drastically in that time, with numerous video-capable cameras launching from rivals and Sony itself.

Now, the 12-megapixel, $3,500 A7S III is here and appears to be worth the wait. It’s the first mirrorless camera that can keep up to Sony’s pro video cameras in terms of 4K video specs, while also gaining important features like a flip-out display. And it still includes the incredible high-ISO performance that the A7S lineup is known for.

Pros

  • Outstanding video and photo quality
  • 4K 10-bit 120fps video
  • 5-axis stabilization
  • flip-out display
  • compact size
  • category-leading autofocus

Cons

  • Price
  • relatively low sensor resolution

Summary

Sony’s 12.1-megapixel A7S III was worth the five-year wait. It has the same incredible low-light capability of its predecessors, but adds much-needed features like improved stabilization, a flip-out touch display and 4K video at up to 120 fps. Video dynamic range is dramatically improved, and it’s now a stellar run-and-gun and vlogging camera. As a bonus, if you don’t require high-resolution images, it’s one of the quickest cameras available for photography. The biggest downsides are the low-resolution sensor and high $3,500 price tag.
