HyperX ChargePlay Clutch Charging Case for Nintendo Switch Review

Performance

Performance tests, in this case, will include battery capacity compared to the declared values. I’ve performed multiple tests in the last days, but there are two which I could call repeatable and tell us a lot about the ChargePlay Clutch battery capacity.

The first test is based on the gameplay of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. This game takes a lot of time to pass, and some players stay interested for over 300 hours. That’s pretty amazing. Since it takes so much time, then for sure, some users wish to carry the Switch with them to be able to play outside of the house.

In the table below are some of my results, which can be a bit different on other consoles as multiple factors are affecting how long we can play each game.

Test Results

The Legend Of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (gameplay)
Nintendo Switch built-in battery 2 hours 45 minutes
HyperX ChargePlay Clutch 5 hours 32 minutes
Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age (into in a loop)
Nintendo Switch built-in battery 4 hours 25 minutes
HyperX ChargePlay Clutch 10 hours 5 minutes

Typical time on a single recharge without the HyperX ChargePlay Clutch during which we could play the Legend of Zelda was about 2 hours and 45 minutes. It’s not so long. However, once we connected our console to the ChargePlay Clutch, then we could play for over five and a half hours. This is already a fantastic result.

Considering that the Zelda is quite a demanding game, then many other titles should last longer on a single recharge.

Something lighter is in the second test, so the Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age, which was working in a loop during the intro. The display brightness was set to 50% what was about what I’m using while playing games. As expected this time, it took some more time, and we’ve reached about 4 hours and 25 minutes during the test with only a built-in battery. After docking the Switch into the ChargePlay Clutch, we could run up to 10 hours and 5 minutes. Now that’s impressive.

Our results are clearly showing that the HyperX ChargePlay Clutch is a great accessory that is on top of the list if we are using the Switch on the go. We can expect at least double the time comparing to a built-in battery, and up to an additional 6 hours, it depends on what we are playing.

I already see there are many satisfied users of the ChargePlay Clutch, so I feel that I’m not wrong saying that this product is a must-have for the Switch users.
