Antlion Audio ModMic Wireless Microphone Review

Conclusion and Verdict

Just like the USB version these will attach to any set of headphones seamlessly and without causing any damage. Thumbs up! So as far as how these mount to headphones I can say, easy and intuitive.

The range of the wireless capabilities exceeded 75 feet. That’s an extremely good connection. aptX for a mic? Yep and everyone that heard the mic was impressed with the sound they heard. The switch for uni-directional or omni-directional mode is conveniently placed and easily switched on the fly. Also there is wire cable clasp that is a nice included bonus that can used for keeping USB extension cable or the charging cable in place. There is definitely noticeable difference in the 2 voice modes. If you here a popping noise when switching between the modes don’t be concerned as this is normal. I did get some feedback about it sounding me sounding slightly muffled. So I took of the foam piece and it made a huge difference but on the downside it would pick up breathing noises much easier if I talked directly into the mic. I never had any issues what so ever with latency.

The magnet that holds mic is a very strong magnet. But on thing I did notice it did come apart a couple of times when I was adjusting the microphones position. So keep that in mind if you go to quickly adjust the mic position closer or farther away from your mouth. Now as far as flipping the mic up out of the way, that worked flawlessly. The strength of the magnet and the design of the clasp make for a great ratcheting feel. The movement is smooth yet there is a noticeable feedback feeling when the mic is latched into place. AND THERE ARE NO WIRES TO WORK AROUND!!

Is the Antlion Audio ModMic Wireless Microphone practical? That’s for you to decide. The answer could go both ways. By no means is this setup cheap, but if you have a set of expensive high end headphones that has no voice capabilities, this makes perfect sense. Yes, you could find a gaming headset for the same price everyday of the week. But keep in mind these are designed to be an add-on and the mic works just as good, if not better, than most of those gaming headsets. So if you have a 400 dollar set of headphones like me, than this make perfect sense. No need to accumulate a separate headset for gaming, now I can utilize my favorite set of headphones!
