ASUS ROG Swift PG248Q 24” Gaming Monitor

In this review we’ll be taking a quick look at the Asus ROG Swift PG248Q 24” Gaming Monitor. This monitor is designed for the gamers who want seamless visuals and super-smooth gameplay. It features a 24-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080) TN panel with a 16:9 aspect ratio, and it’s Nvidia’s G-SYNC as well as 3D Vision ready. It comes with an overclockable 180Hz refresh rate, and 1ms response time which eliminate screen tearing and choppy frame rates.

The ROG Swift PG248Q 24” is truly a gamer’s monitor.

One of the selling points about ROG Swift PG248Q is the overclockable refresh rate. Like overclocking your CPU, overclocking the refresh rate can increase smoothness, lessen lag and reduce motion blur during gameplay. I do however, recommend you to carefully read the instructions. Running your monitor at a refresh rate will not necessarily mean everything will run faster 😉

With a refresh rate of up to 180Hz (default/native is 144Hz), it’s more than enough for even the most hardcore of gamers.

Another feature is the support for Nvidia’s G-SYNC, which synchronizes the monitor’s refresh rate to your graphics card … that’s if you own a GeForce GTX. It help to eliminate screen tearing and minimizes display stutter and input lag.

There is one thing I need to point out. The ROG Swift P248Q uses a TN panel and not the latest IPS panel. What’s the difference? Well, there’s an article on TrustedReviews all about TN vs IPS. Go check it out.

Being sold as a “gaming” monitor, one must have some “go-fast, gaming stripes”… Well, the base of the ROG Swift PG248Q gaming monitor comes with a red LED ring, that can work with the Light-in-Motion feature and adds some aesthetics.

We’ll start by saying a big thanks to Asus ROG for providing the review sample. This is a snippet from what ROG has to say about themselves on their website:

For years since its establishment, ASUS aimed to put an ever-greater emphasis on PC gaming. This process resulted in the 2006 founding of the Republic of Gamers brand (ROG), formed for the sole purpose of delivering the most innovative hardcore hardware for truly dedicated gamers.

Since then, the efforts of the ROG team have led to a constant flow of PC gaming technology that has become legendary among enthusiasts for its performance. ROG is more than just hardware, though – we take an active part in the global gaming community, helping develop the industry by sponsoring events such as PAX and Dreamhack. Worldwide media have recognized ROG as a leader in PC gaming and overclocking performance, with many of our products winning awards and gaining very positive feedback from hardware pros.

With this great response from gamers and the industry, ROG has all the resources it needs to keep working on enabling even better experiences – technology never sleeps, nor should the action!

From what I can gather, the Asus ROG Swift PG248Q certainly has all the makings for a great gaming monitor. With its sleek design and great specs, you won’t find another monitor on the market that can give you a refresh rate of up to 180Hz. OK, now let’s take closer look at the features and general overview of the monitor in our next page.
