Philips 279P1/27 4K LCD Monitor with USB-C Review

Conclusion and Verdict

If you are in the market for a monitor that has every adjustment, this is the one you want. You can find several monitors that pivots vertically yes, but this one pivots both ways. I have had a monitor in the past where I actually had to mount the stand upside down so the monitor pivoted the way I needed it too. Not the case with the 279P1/27 the pivots in both directions. So no more hassle messing with mounts if you need it on a particular side of your main display. You can have this next to your laptop in vertical orientation as a secondary monitor and if you read through code then this is such an awesome feature. Now you can have the slim bezel on the side side you need without frustration. The tilt is a whopping 35 degrees. This is perfect for a standing desk setup. You will be able to find the perfect viewing angle. So as far as swivel there is more than enough. The monitor swivels 180 degrees. so now you can swing your monitor around to your buddy on the opposite side you with out even having to leave your seat. I am just joking of course but this has more than enough swivel.

The speakers on the monitor are not half bad. I have definitely came across a lot worse. You will have plenty of speaker power to casually listen to music or watch videos. I set the volume to 100% and at that level the distortion was negligible. The depth was lacking but at least the wasn’t a horrible echo.

So the 279P1/27 monitor is top of the line for a workstation monitor but the big question you have been waiting for, can you game on it? Before I answer that questions lets cover a few things. 60Hz refresh rate. While this perfectly fine at 4K. We might see that number to rise to 120 on the next generation of cards but for now that spec is perfectly fine. Brightness, I personally like to see up to at least 400 cd/m but 350 will be ok. 4ms response. This is weak if you are wanting this a  gaming monitor. Many monitors are coming out at 1ms, even on VA Panels. You could still use this as a gaming monitor with that response but if you are looking for an edge you wont be getting that from this monitor. So yes you can game and have an extremely enjoyable time but if your sole purpose is a gaming monitor this one might not be the one.
