Philips 4K Ultra HD 28-inch LCD Monitor 288E2E Review

First things first, I would like to give a huge thanks to Philips for sending me the Philips 288E2E 4K LCD Monitor to review! I like to always start a review hinting at what is in store further in the review. I do this by naming a few of the features or specifications of whatever it is we are reviewing. Some of these features may be some critical component or something about this particular product that makes it stand out. So when I started to test and dig through the features of the 288E2E I came across a mode called PbP (Picture by Picture). I think by now we have all heard about PiP (Picture in Picture), right. In case you haven’t, it is where you can utilize a small portion of your screen to view another input. Sound useful but something I rarely use to be honest. The size of the PiP is usually very limited and covers existing screen areas. This is where PbP changes all that. With the feature of PbP you can literally separate your monitor into 2 displays right down the center. Think of the possibilities of having your computer on one side and a tablet, phone, or any other device that connects through HDMI on the the other half of the monitor. You could be watching a presentation on your tablet and taking notes while being able to focus on the same monitor. You might say what’s the point? I can just look at the tablet when I need too. Yes true but when you have two windows open on the same monitor you are under less eye strain and the convenience of having 2 apps seamlessly next to each other is very beneficial. The features don’t end there but the PbP feature is something that set this monitor apart from most and is worth a deeper look into. So until we get to that point lets cover everything else this monitor has to offer on the next few pages.

The 28” Philips 288E2E utilizes a high performance IPS panel to deliver Ultra Clear, 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) resolution images. Company Overview – About Royal Philips

Royal Philips (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHIA) is a leading health technology company focused on improving people’s health and enabling better outcomes across the health continuum from healthy living and prevention, to diagnosis, treatment and home care. Philips leverages advanced technology and deep clinical and consumer insights to deliver integrated solutions. Headquartered in the Netherlands, the company is a leader in diagnostic imaging, image-guided therapy, patient monitoring and health informatics, as well as in consumer health and home care. Inspired by the fast-growing electricity industry and the promising results of son Gerard’s own experiments to make reliable carbon filaments, in 1891 Frederik Philips financed the purchase of a modest factory in Eindhoven. Their plan? To bring cost-effective, reliable electric incandescent light bulbs to everyone who needed them.

Over the years since then, we have continued to improve people’s lives with a steady flow of ground-breaking innovations.

1980 – 1990Technological landmark: the Compact Disc

The 1982/83 market launch of the Compact Disc – developed together with Sony – represented another technological landmark for Philips. This new digital format delivered pure sound without background noise. Key to CD’s success was the companies’ decision to grant manufacturing rights to other producers, immediately establishing CD as a new global standard. Other milestones from this period include the production of Philips’ 100-millionth TV set in 1984 and the founding of Philips China Ltd in 1985.

1990 – 2000Far-reaching changes and new successes

The 1990s was a decade of significant change for Philips, as the company simplified its structure and reduced the number of areas in which it operated. In healthcare, Philips adopted a new, people-centric approach to product design, the aim being to make medical systems easier for clinicians to use, and more comfortable for patients. Building on the success of its Compact Disc technology, Philips again partnered with Sony to introduce the DVD in 1997. This ground-breaking innovation went on to become the fastest-growing home electronics product in history.

21st century : Enduring commitment to innovation

Moving into a new century, Philips remained fully committed to innovation. Reflecting its focus on health and well-being, the company introduced the Ambient Experience in 2002. This innovative solution improves hospitals’ workflow and patient care by integrating architecture, design, dynamic lighting and sound. Other milestones include, in 2006, the first commercial launch of a 3D scanner, providing unprecedented image quality for CT scans. In 2012, Philips introduced the AlluraClarity interventional X-ray system, which offers excellent visibility at low X-ray dose levels. Recent innovations include the development of the Philips Smart Air Purifier and and Philips Azurion, the next-generation image-guided therapy platform that enables clinicians to perform a wide range of routine and complex procedures, helping them to optimize interventional lab performance and provide superior care.
