Cooler Master Masterbox 5 Chassis Review

A Closer Look: Exterior

The MasterBox 5 is solid black. Everything is blacked out. The IO ports are convientiantly located on the top of the front bezel. The USB port are clearly labeled 3.0 and you have two of them. The power button is placed directly in the center between the USB ports and the Audio ports. The audio ports to the right are not color coded but has very clear icons letting you know which one is which. The reset button is pretty small and is located just right of the audio ports. I like the small button. This makes sure you don’t accidentally hit the reset button. The front grill is a nice touch. The mesh material is metal while the bezel is plastic. The mesh, like all mesh, will bend if to much pressure is applied. There is a nice Cooler Master logo in the lower center of the front mesh. The rest of the case is made up of metal and the window is a plastic held in by pressed tabs on the inside. The metal is thin but seems to hold up to the use. The finish is somewhere between shiny and matte. As you can see in a few pictures fingerprints and smudges will show up on the case. The bottom of the case has large feet. The rubber pads the chassis rests on are as wide as the case and are about an inch and a half wide.

A Closer Look: Interior

On the inside the first thing I noticed was the space available. This case really does have plenty of room to play around with. You will see at the bottom where the PSU mounts the dust filter. I am a big fan of filters. The filter has easy access and is easy to remove and reinstall. In addition to the dust filter is the removable PSU cover. The PSU covers are becoming more and more standard in your high end cases and Cooler Master has included this feature for the MasterBox5. There are plenty of holes and spaces to run your cables. One thing Cooler Master has taking great care in, is including plenty of options for cable management.
