Noctua NH-D15 Premium CPU Cooler Review

Installation

Noctua kindly included a highly detailed set of instructions. To install the NH-D15 we will use the provided hardware supplied. I will be using the AMD mounting hardware today. I know from experiences that removing the motherboard from the case greatly reduces frustration when installing any heatsink of this size. With AMD we use the stock back plate for most applications as they are usually not provided as in this case. Simply place your back plate. Place the four plastic spacers. Place the mounting adapters and secure in to place with the screws provided. Next prep the CPU for some thermal paste and add the required amount. Now we are ready to attach the NH-D15 to the motherboard.

This step will require you to remove the fan that came preinstalled. Once the fan is removed we can move on and secure the heatsink to the CPU. The NH-D15 cannot be installed incorrectly as it is symmetrical. Now set the heatsink on the CPU and line up the mounting spring loaded screws and tighten them down. I did not even have to remove my ram during this entire process. Once the NH-D15 is securely mounted attach the fans to your preference. You have the option of placing the second fan on either side if the heatsink. Just keep in mind clearances when installing the second fan over the ram as the fan will stick out above the top of heatsink. I chose to install the second fan towards the rear of my motherboard for these reasons. Lastly attach the CPU fan power cord. Honestly, during the entire process of installing the Noctua NH-D15, with the supplied Noctua SecuFirm2 kits, I had no issues to mention.
