Noctua NH-U14S Cooler & NF-A15 Fan Review

Testing and Results

And now to probably everybody’s favorite part. The actual numbers:

The test system:

  • Intel Core i7 4770k (Haswell)
  • Gigabyte Z87X-UD4H Motherboard
  • 4gb Patriot Viper Extreme 2400mhz
  • Corsair 600W CX600 PSU

As usual, the 4770K will be run at a mild overclock and a higher overclock:

  • 4.1ghz with 1.15v Core
  • 4.5GHz with 1.3v Core.

Results

Again we’ll be using the standard metric of idle and load temperature(s) minus the ambient temperature (or Delta).  And again: LOWER IS BETTER

4.1Ghz Testing

That’s about right, and given that this is only using one 150mm fan, it’s pretty decent.  Now let’s see what happens when we turn up the heat.

Overclocked

Not bad.  Maybe it could have been a tad lower, but since it’s keeping up with the untouchable on a one-fan setup, I’d say that gives it a definite edge.

Noise Level

As I said before, noise isn’t something you’ll have to be bothered with.  The fan is big and might seem to run a bit slow, but it actually does pull a good bit of weight.  If you really want to use the noise adaptor, but that means lowering the fan speed.  It’s your choice, though I highly recommend the default setting.
