Scythe Mugen 5 Tower CPU Cooler Review

Package and its Contents

Even though our cooler was delivered before premiere, it’s in a retail package which is a black box.

Package is well described and includes all information you may need before actual purchase. Since most users are buying computer hardware online then I quess that it won’t be required but still there is a part of users who’d rather buy hardware at the local store.

What is more important is in the box. Let’s start from the additional components.

We are receiving Kaze Flex 120mm fan, mounting kit and user’s manual. There is also thermal grease and additional set of fan clips if we wish to install second fan.

Fan is designed to spin at about 1200 rpm. However you can adjust speed in motherboard’s BIOS/UEFI or using external fan controller. In our tests at auto settings fan was spinning at about 1000 rpm and was really quiet. Scythe is promising it has also improved lifespan due to higher quality components used to build it.

Scythe Mugen 5 is compatible with Intel LGA 775, 115x, 1366 and 2011( and v3 ) sockets but also with AMD AMD2/+, AM3/+, FM1 and FM2/+ sockets. Simply almost every available desktop processor.

On the next page we will take a closer look at the cooler itself.
