Scythe Mugen MAX SCMGD-1000 CPU Cooler Review

Packaging

The Scythe Mugen Max SCMGD-1000 arrive to my door in a cardboard shipping box, of course, inside that contained the products box. Scythe opted for a primarily white box with what I would call a blue and orange scheme. Mugen Max is in big print right across the front along with the Scythe logo in the top left corner. There is a great picture of the hardware you are about get located on the front of the box. Each side of the box highlights the features and specification of the cooler inside. The box is very informative explaining the cooler in great detail before you open the box.

When you open the top flap exposing the cooler you get to look into a mirror. The finish on the top of the cooler is as smooth and polished as you can get and yes your fingerprints will be all over this thing by the time you get the cooler installed. The 140mm fan is tightly tuck next to the cooler but is not preinstalled. Next to the cooler in the small white box is all the hardware needed to install the cooler, including an extra set of fan mounting clips incase you want to add a second fan. One thing to note is the thermal paste does look a little on the cheap and cheesy side. The paste is definitely not metallic based and looks rather thick and almost same as you would see on something stock. Now just because I have seen Nutella peanut butter being used as thermal paste I would not recommend doing so, I think if you had a tube of your preferred paste laying around use that. This paste would do the job but would breakdown very quick.

Now let us take a closer look at the cooler itself!
