Linksys WRT 1200 AC Dual-Band Wireless Router Review with ExpressVPN

Setup and Configuration

Just any other router, you can access the admin page to configure your settings. You can …

  • Enable both 2.4GHz and 5GHz band separately with different Wifi SSIDs
  • Check your WAN (ISP/Provider) settings
  • Enable/disable firewall
  • Enable diagnostics and status check
  • Allow SSH access
  • Activate/Deactivate ExpressVPN
  • Configure open source software and more …

Speed Tests

The Linksys WRT 1200 AC was pitted again the award winning Asus RT-AC68U. You can see the results for yourself. The Asus RT-AC68U slightly edges ahead with its amazingly low ping times, and raw download speed on my 1 Gigbit fiber connection.

Having said that, the Linksys WRT 1200 AC is no slouch either. It still gave me more than 80% of my 1 Gigabit fiber connection, which is more than I can say.

There’s one thing you have to remember. The Linksys WRT 1200 AC comes with ExpressVPN built-in. If you have an ExpressVPN account … it’s a simple one step activation and you’re connected to the VPN server of your choice. This is ONLY available on the Linksys WRT 1200/1900 series.

We also tested the download speeds of 3 different VPN servers. Read our next page for more …
