Our memory kit contains two 8GB modules rated at DDR4-4000. Under the heatsinks, we can find Micron E-die. Thanks to free software like Thaiphoon Burner, we don’t have to remove heatsinks to check that.

Memory manufacturers are usually using Micron E IC in lower series memory, even though we could see a couple of memory OC world records in past months. There are manufacturers like Corsair which decided to use it in their top speed memory kits rated at DDR4-4800 but highly overpriced. I’m saying that just because pretty much every Ballistix Elite DDR4-3600 and DDR4-4000 memory kit which I had a chance to test could work at least up to DDR4-4800 and its price is nearly 25% of mentioned Corsair memory kit. Some results are in our Ballistix Elite DDR4-3600 review from last couple of months. Some will be presented in this review as the Elite DDR4-4000 is overclocking even better.

If you are looking for the best Micron E IC then you can find it in Ballistix Elite DDR4-3600 and DDR4-4000. I’m not sure if it’s a matter of luck, Ballistix IC selection or simply a higher quality of the product as I had a chance to test many memory kits on the Micron E while most of them were overclocking worse than the Ballistix.

Below is mentioned Thaiphoon Burner screenshot so you can see the details about the reviewed memory kit.

The Ballistix Elite DDR4-4000 has also quite tight timings for a Micron E memory kit. Ballistix never risks instability so if memory kit has XMP profile at DDR4-4000 CL18-19-19 then it already gives us high expectations about its overclocking potential. I will only add that most competitive memory kits that are using the same series IC are usually rated up to DDR4-3600 CL18-22-22.

Below is a screenshot from the AIDA64 System Stability Test made on the motherboard with the X570 chipset.

Ballistix Elite is designed for all modern desktop platforms from AMD and Intel. It should work without issues at DDR4-4000 as long as the chipset supports so high frequencies so in case of Intel it has to be Z or X series chipset while in case of AMD, X570. If we don’t have one of those motherboards them the memory will of course also work but at a lower frequency.

The memory works great on motherboards with the X570 chipset where it overclocks up to DDR4-4800 or even the magical DDR4-5000. It also works great on the X299 in quad-channel mode. Below you can see four Ballistix Elite DDR4-4000 modules in the M.O.D. software. During work, modules temperature is up to 45°C what is much below the safe value.

Let’s move to the next page to take a look at the product and its package.
