Ballistix Sport AT 32GB DDR4-3000 Memory Kit Review

Specifications

Our memory kit contains 4 modules, 8GB capacity each. The memory kit is rated at DDR4-3000 CL17-19-19 1.35V so I guess that some readers will say that timings are quite relaxed for this speed. On the other hand, we are used to seeing quite relaxed timings in other Crucial or Ballistix memory kits. It’s just because Ballistix care about the full compatibility and stability. Of course, it doesn’t mean that we can’t overclock the Sport AT memory. About that, I will tell you later and now let’s focus on what the manufacturer is guaranteeing.

Above you can see a screenshot from Thaiphoon Burner software which is showing more detailed info about the memory modules. As expected, under the heatsinks we can find Micron IC. It’s a bit different series than we had a chance to see in Ballistix Tracer RGB memory kit reviewed a couple of weeks ago. Looking at the results, I can say that most new Micron IC is capable of the same maximum speed which in our case is about DDR4-3600 and with some luck up to DDR4-3733. Of course, this speed is not guaranteed and a lot depends on luck.

Our memory kit has programmed one XMP profile which is also listed on the screenshots. We’ve checked stability at rated speed using Intel and AMD platforms. Below is a screenshot in quad channel mode on AMD Threadripper platform which we will use for performance tests.

Package and its Contents

The Ballistix Sport AT memory comes in a plastic box which protects memory well for the time of transport. The package is well described so there are no problems to check what we can find inside. Inside we will find four 8GB memory modules rated at DDR4-3000 and 1.35V. We can also see the TUF Gaming Alliance logo which is more or less a way to show customers that this product is especially recommended for gamers.

Memory modules are standard height so shouldn’t cause any issues during installation with even the largest cooling solutions.

Under the aluminum heatsinks, we will find Micron IC what is not a surprise since Ballistix is a gaming brand of Micron Corporation. Micron IC is also showing great compatibility and stability. On the other hand, not all IC series are overclocking high. It doesn’t change the fact that even without overclocking, DDR4-3000 memory should be fast enough for everything.

Memory modules look interesting. It’s mostly because of a color mix which is a flagship for the TUF Alliance so yellow and gunmetal-gray. Our test rig contains also Enermax cooling and PSU from TUF Alliance series.

As we can see, the memory looks exceptional and should fit most builds. It doesn’t have any LEDs but for some users, it’s actually an advantage. Personally, I feel there is too much lighting and many brands are focusing more on RGB LEDs than on any improvements in existing products.

At the end of this page a couple of more photos as they say more than any words. We can see that the Ballistix Sport AT looks great but how does it perform? The answer to this question you will find on the next page of this review.
